Many people do not know that the Thornton Police Department has their very own Thornton Jail. As of 2020, Thornton is the only city within the county to have their own jail.
The Thornton Police Department is the agency involved in the operations, safety, and custody of everyone that walks through their doors.
All the offenders that the city jail sees are those who were arrested locally. Most of these offenders will be brought out on bail, but those who were not given bail will be then transported down to the Adams County facility.
Since many of the inmates who will be brought into the Thornton Jail are only here for an average of 72 hours, the jail does not have their inmate roster available to the public.
So, if you do not find your loved one in the hospitals and suspect he or she is being held in the Thornton Jail, you will need to call the facility with the phone number above. A correctional officer will ask you for a few pieces of information for them to locate the inmate.

Sending a Mail/Care Package
As previously mentioned, majority of the inmates in the Thornton Jail are not here very long. So, the Thornton Jail does not accept any incoming mail or packages. If you try to send an inmate any mail or packages when they are in the facility, they will be brought back to you.
It is best to wait until he or she is sent off to the county facility before sending any mail.
Inmates in the Thornton Jail will not need any funds. You will not be permitted to send inmates in the Thornton Jail any sort of money as there is no commissary available for them to purchase anything.
Once the inmate is sent off to the county facility, then there you will be allowed to send money.
Inmates are only permitted to call you by calling collect calls from the Thornton Jail. You are the only person responsible for all fees that are charged when this call takes place. The inmate or the Thornton Jail is not responsible.
